Harvest House’s Continuing Education Program offers residents the opportunity to earn a high school equivalency through the Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC). Since its inception in 2007, over 100 residents have successfully completed the program and earned their high school equivalency diplomas—a transformative milestone for many who had previously abandoned formal education.
The program prepares residents for exams in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. It is more than a credential—it’s a launchpad. Many graduates have gone on to pursue post-secondary education at institutions such as Algonquin College, the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, Toronto Metropolitan University, and York University. Their fields of study have included psychology, linguistics, human kinetics, business, criminology, graphic design, addiction counselling, and more. Several alumni have earned not only diplomas and undergraduate degrees but also graduate-level credentials.
This program plays a critical role in long-term recovery. Education opens the door to meaningful careers, upward social mobility, and economic stability—all of which are protective factors against relapse and recidivism. By helping residents build a future filled with opportunity and purpose, the Continuing Education Program supports not just academic achievement, but lasting transformation.
