Digging Up the Roots: Overcoming Explosive Anger

Harvest House’s Anger Management program, titled “Digging Up the Roots: Overcoming Explosive Anger,” is a Christ-centred course designed to help residents understand and manage sudden, irrational, and disproportionate outbursts of anger. The program begins by affirming that anger itself is not sinful—it’s a natural emotion. The issue lies in how we respond to it. Drawing from Ephesians 4:26–27, the course teaches that while we may feel anger, we must not let it control our actions or give the enemy a foothold in our lives.

Residents explore the emotional and spiritual consequences of explosive anger, including guilt, shame, and damaged relationships. The course helps participants identify their personal warning signs and the deeper emotions—such as fear, insecurity, or resentment—that often fuel their outbursts. Through biblical reflection, self-examination, and the principles of the Twelve Steps, residents learn that explosive anger is not inevitable. There is always a way out.

This program is not about suppressing anger but about transforming how residents deal with it. By practising honesty, surrender, and accountability, participants begin to break the cycle of emotional volatility and find healing through faith, community, and personal responsibility.
